Thank you for choosing our parish to celebrate this Mass in honor of your loved one. It is our privilege and honor to serve you. Once contact has been made with the sacristan, the priest will be contacted and a date and time for Mass will be confirmed. Family and friends may arrange to meet with the sacristan to choose Scripture readings and hymns for the Mass. The sacristan can make these selections for the family, if no meeting is desired.
For a Catholic funeral Mass, the following selections are needed:
1 reading from the Old Testament (During the Easter season, a New Testament reading may be chosen. Easter runs from Easter Sunday through Pentecost.)
1 Responsorial Psalm to be sung by the cantor
1 reading from the New Testament
1 Gospel reading: from Matthew, Mark, Luke, or John (the priest can choose this, if preferred)
4 Hymns: 1 opening song, 1 song during Preparation of Gifts (bread & wine), 1 Communion song, 1 closing song.
** We kindly request that no secular music or pop songs be chosen for the Mass.
Please contact our music director, Dan O’Hara at (727) 372-8600 x128 for any questions about music.
We know this is a difficult time for you, your friends and family, and we encourage your allowing us to minister to you. However, if you have family members or friends who read at mass in their home church, they are welcome to read at the funeral. We ask readers to arrive 15 minutes before Mass so the sacristan may go over instructions to eliminate confusion during Mass. Please give the first names of your readers to the sacristan no later than 2 days before the funeral. If there are no relatives or friends who would like to read, the sacristan will be happy to choose a volunteer from the parish who is trained for this ministry.
Family and friends may also choose to bring up the gifts of bread and wine. Two people can be chosen. Please give the sacristan the first names of those chosen no later than 2 days before the Mass. If this is not desired, our parish Lazarus Group will be happy to help.
Eulogies and remembrances for the deceased are optional and may be given after Holy Communion has been distributed. We have a 2- speaker limit. They may speak for 2-3 minutes each.
Pictures of the deceased may be present during the Mass. Please contact the sacristan for more details regarding placement in the church.
We do not make florist recommendations. Your funeral home director may be able to give suggestions.
Our parish hall may be rented for receptions following Mass, if available. We do not have a hospitality committee for catering or set-up, so this will be the responsibility of the family. Please contact the sacristan for more details.
A $400 stipend is kindly requested. Additional requests for a priest/deacon to be present at visitations or graveside services will be an additional $50. This may be paid the day of the funeral. This money is used to pay our clergy, music director, and cantor for their services, as well as for the maintenance of our church. Funeral services will never be refused to anyone who is unable to afford them.
Finally, please provide the sacristan with some background information about your loved one. Share some thoughts and anything special and memorable about your relative or friend. This will be shared with the priest to help him personalize the homily.
If you have any additional questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to our sacristan or other staff members. We are honored to help you during this difficult time. Please be assured of our prayers and support.
May God bless you and fill you with peace!
