Stand Down is a time for the community to connect with our homeless veterans and to begin to break down the barriers that are keeping these heroes on the streets. The “hand up, not a handout” philosophy of Stand Down requires the work of countless volunteers, businesses, and local, state and national organizations. Organizations will be available to provide direct services (including medical, dental, spiritual);ensure Veterans are getting benefits they are entitled to; and provide referrals for those struggling with mental health, job, housing and addiction issues.
We are in need of volunteers, cash donations and the following:
New White Socks
Men’s Work Boots (esp. 9,9.5,10,10.5)
Sample size soaps
Sample size shampoo
New Underwear (Men/Women including XL and 2XL)
Sample size body wash
Gently Used (men’s and women’s all sizes):
Jackets, Short and Long-Sleeved T-shirts, Jeans, Leather Belts, Towels and Washcloths,
Adult bicycles in good working condition (an anonymous donor will match each donation of a bike!)
• All items need to be clean and free of stains and holes.
• No dress clothes, please.
• We are unable to accept donations during the event, but will begin accepting drop-off donations August 14. Deadline for drop-offs is Friday, September 28.
